5-essential-practices-for-a-vibrant-spiritual-life

I was talking to a friend the other day.  “What should I do if I just feel blah about God?”, she asked, “I’m just not growing any more – not motivated, not changing – it’s tempting to just give up on God’s even being real at all. Where is the excitement, the joy, and the passion people say should be part of the spiritual life? Why does “everyone else” seem to find prayer so rewarding while I sit over here at a loss?”

She was asking me different questions but really they all boil down to the same crux of the matter. How does one bring a stagnant spiritual life back to life?

How to Respond when God Wills Suffering

When God wills suffering?

How can a good God possibly allow suffering?

We pronounce the question with a flourish, smiling smugly on the inside thinking that we’ve finally found ourselves an excuse to doubt Him, or at the very least, justify our bitterness or our desire to run away.

What I realized yesterday is that maybe all along, we’ve been asking the wrong question.

Should God really have to explain Himself to us? Should we only deign to listen to Him only when we understand His plan?

Maybe it isn’t always about understanding why… maybe its about learning how to respond.

Endurance, When life is Hard

When your burdens are too heavy….

“When the burdens of my heart are many, your consolations cheer my soul.”  – Psalm 94:19

Most days I feel overwhelmed. There is so much work to do, so many decisions to make, so much wrong with the world, so much drama in my life… not to mention so many children to raise, so many meals to cook, so many words left to write, and so little time.

Is all this worth the effort??
