why-god-permits-me-to-fail-at-my-goals-and-how-to-leverage-it

I guess experience makes me qualified to write about failure.

From where I sit, when I look at the grand scheme of all my plans, by all outward appearance at this moment in my life, I am one. I’ve worked for many years to learn all the S.M.A.R.T. things and do all the big tasks. I’ve figured out all the bullet points and all the check boxes. I’ve invented all the systems and implemented all the rewards. I’ve tapped into all the neural retraining and the capturing and replacing of thoughts and gone on and on about types of motivation… and, yet,

Personal Growth, Prioritizing your life

When Goals Steal your Peace…

Goals are supposed to be a tool to help us align our actions with our priorities and make us make progress towards what matters to us. Sounds good right?

Well, then why do we so often fail at our goals?

Or better yet, when we succeed at them, why do they leave us dissatisfied?

If you are a type A Christian who wants to “do everything right” and yet goal setting seems to be causing more harm than good, then you are my people.

2 Prayers to Keep us Humble

Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me; for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. ~ Matthew 11:29

Humility is so “unpopular”. It is literally the opposite of everything we believe to be good as a society right now: “stand up for yourself”, “don’t let anyone put you down”, “you are capable of anything”, etc. Even the most recent battle over “equality” calls itself “Pride”. This is not to say that recognizing your belovedness or having a healthy level of confidence is bad, but rather, grossly misunderstood.

It would be wonderful if we could help humility make a comeback.

Relationship with God, Seasonal Reflections, Self Care

How to Combat Spiritual Burnout This Holiday Season

Spiritual Burnout can be especially bad around the Holidays, and you may not even know you have it!

Entering the holidays almost always fills us with a mutual sense of excitement and dread. Excitement at the thought of having some time off and enjoying all the sparkly and delicious things we love. It fills us with hopes and expectations of the ideal ways things could go in our minds, but dread at the knowledge that so often we spend every last ounce of our energy trying to realize our perfect dream, but, at the end of the day, nothing really changes and every year we seem to come out of this season “of rest” even more exhausted than before.

Endurance, Self Care, When life is Hard

Is Self-Care compatible with Christian “Death-to-Self”?

Is Self-Care compatible with Christian Death-to-Self?  This question is especially important in a culture where self-care is preached as the solution to every problem and depression is still at an all time high.  Are we just not doing enough “self-care”? Or could dying-to-self actually be the solution to life?

“Whoever wishes to come after me must deny himself, take up his cross, and follow me.  For whoever wishes to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for my sake will find it.” – Matthew 16:24-25
